I recently cried my eyes out to the music video of SB19’s song Time; one of the songs on their Simula at Wakas (SAW) album. I have always been weak to dramatic stories and this one was a heart breaker but an eye opener as well. In fact, it’s one of the reasons why I started to blog again.
SB19’s SAW album is a roller coaster ride of emotions and Time is one of those songs that’s really sad but also motivational. In the music video, the plot twist was truly heart wrenching. I think everyone who watched the story unfold thought it would end how most stories with the same characters would end. But it ended more tragically than we imagined. It was hard to move on to be honest. You can watch the MV here.
I felt not just sadness but also regret for the both of them. The whole situation was nobody’s fault. Life just happens that way sometimes while time cruelly marches forever onwards even as memories and humans turn to dust. Time is not under our control but we can control what we do with the time that we have.

Once again, SB19’s music expresses deep-seated sentiments in the most impactful and beautiful way. Not just in the visual storytelling, but the lyrics and melody hit so hard too. Until now, the chorus still keeps repeating in my head:
‘Cause one day, we’ll run out of time
Memories, we’ll leave them behind
Many things we can’t control
I hope you know, it’s better to try
‘Cause one day, we’ll run out of
Another verse that has stuck with me:
All of these are natural, no one’s really in control
But we livе a little ’cause we know
Whеn we vanish, we don’t really go
That last line is at least a consolation that even when we leave our loved ones behind; our memories will stay with them. Even when we’ve run out of time, those who are left behind will still have us in their hearts. That’s why we should strive to create more great memories with them. It sounds simple, but in reality it entails constant effort and a lot of emotional intelligence to accomplish.
Time was a shocking way to remind us that we should do everything we can with the time that we have because time waits for no one. It’s better to try your best and do your best than to not do anything at all.
Even if the story had a sad ending; I feel that the characters did their best to do whatever they can in the time they had. So the only regret really was that they did not have enough time; but they should have no regrets that they didn’t try hard enough to live their lives to the best they can. Of course, the sadness will remain but the happy memories will too.
We are luckier than those before us. It doesn’t take much effort now to record and keep memories through writing, pictures and videos. Ironically, it takes a lot more effort to stay in touch and make good memories more frequently. Thus, I am trying to record my memories here while I try my best to create more memorable experiences with the people I care about.
Technology helps a lot in being able to communicate conveniently. But I still love the traditional way of communicating with hand-written letters. I know the message takes longer to arrive than posting stuff online or messaging but it just feels more personal. Also, you don’t usually write a long, personal email to a friend. We usually use email for work.
With letters, you can see and feel the effort put into it by the person who sent it to you. You feel valued because they put the time and energy to write down their thoughts on paper just to convey their message to you. It also takes some effort to select what type of paper to use and what message to write, which stories to tell, what emotions and sentiments to express.
You feel special (even if just in the moment) when you receive a hand-written letter because someone took the effort to make it and send it to you. Also, we all know we can’t write letters to everyone that way. If I decide to pen you an actual letter and put it in a nice envelope, then that means you are special.
Another thing I love about writing letters is that you can personalize it however you want to make it even more special. The whole process is just nostalgic and romantic for me. This is why I love stationeries too!
Sadly, my years of using a keyboard for work has done no good for my penmanship. But, this song has motivated me to make time to practice the art of letter-writing using pen and paper so I can write pretty letters again. I don’t know how much time it will take me to do it but it’s better to try than to do nothing at all.
