Refreshing My Eyes & My Soul with Greenery

It is a sad fact that most cities don’t have much greenery in its development. That’s why spots in the city that have a lot of greenery is always a welcome sight. It not only refreshes your site from all the buildings but also clears your mind and I’m sure even your lungs.

I met up with a friend in such a place and I couldn’t help but take pictures of the trees and grass and plants right in front of the building. We were waiting for our ride to go someplace else but in the meantime; I soaked up my senses in the view and the pleasant atmosphere.

The sound of traffic is still there but you can hear the sound of the wind and feel it in the breeze too. The green meadow and the energy coming from all the trees, plants and grass somehow washes away the tiredness from my body and calms my mind. All the city sounds become background noise as I soaked up this view. Then, our car arrived and we had to say goodbye to this view.

As our vehicle moved away, a thought came to my mind: “When you’re feeling blue, look at the living greenery.” Not an amazing thought but a comforting one for me at that moment. It gave me a sense of reassurance that I can always look to a patch of living, green plants for some comfort when I grow weary of the harshness of the concrete jungle.

I wish our cities had more trees and plants and gardens. They don’t just help refresh the eyes and mind, they also clean the air, lessen noise pollution, help with grounding and encourages more walking outside instead of just riding in cars all day. It contributes to overall health and wellness. Not to exaggerate but it made me feel like my soul was somehow healed as well.

It is aesthetically pleasing to all senses as well. I would say if you can’t get up early enough for some sunshine, then stepping into some greenery is the next best thing. It is always a healing experience to step under the shade of a tree; especially on warm summer days. Stepping into a green meadow with colorful flowers is quite a healing experience.

This little tranquil moment also inspired me to take up gardening again. I remember that my grandmother had a green thumb. Anything she planted grew and thrived from flowers, vegetables, fruit-bearing trees, even orchids.

I tried growing indoor plants before but they didn’t last long. I will try again and see if some sunlight will be useful for them to thrive. After all, they still have green leaves so putting them near the window but not directly in front of the sunlight might still be beneficial to them. I will try this for my next mini-project to romanticize my small corner of home.
